JLF is an 8-10-week conversational seminar that invites fellows to deepen their understanding of Judaism on their own terms.
This semester, we will be exploring Life’s Big Questions. Together we will explore questions like, “What is (my) Jewish identity?” “How do I understand myself in the context of my relationships (with family, friends, etc.)?” and “How do we disagree?”. The kind of stuff you think about when you’re doing your laundry or pondering existence, but don’t often have time to think about otherwise. Most importantly, we will be thinking about these questions in the context of community– together, at Yale, and within Jewish community more broadly.
We make no claims about the “right” way to practice or not to practice Judaism. Our goal is to help you explore the tradition in a welcoming and warm space in conversation with a diverse group of people. That means we’ll ask a lot of big questions here, but we don’t purport to have any of the big answers and certainly no definitive ones.
Students who participate in at least 8 weeks of the fellowship will receive a $250 stipend.
